Roman Terracotta Brick with Paw-prints of a Dog, 1st-4th Century AD

Brick fragment with impressed double paw-print from a dog walking on the tile while still wet.

The manufacture of bricks required a lot of work and energy, which is why they were occasionally stolen. Not surprisingly, the manufacturers had sometimes their bricks stamped. And they also kept free-roaming dogs on the area to guard their products.

L. 14 cm (5.5 in), H. 11 cm (4.3 in)

Fragmentary. Nice preservation.

Swiss private collection, since the 1980s.

120 USD
