Attic Six's Technique Lekythos, Diosphos Painter, 500-480 BC

Rare Attic lekythos decorated in Six's technique with an Amazon leading a horse. The woman wears a Phrygian cap and an incised and richly decorated Asiatic garment. While taming the horse, she takes a graceful step forward.

A row of six white dots behind the head of the Amazon to indicate a pseudo inscription.

Rare coral red pigment is used for the horse and the Amazon's cap.
White for the female skin, the details of her garment and the tail of the horse.
Crimson for the reins and various lines.

Slight chipping to the lustrous black glaze.

Intact, precious make. Some tiny spots on the black glaze retouched.

Ex Alex G. Malloy Gallery, sold to the New York artist Philip Pearlstein (1924-2022) in January 1987. Copy of the invoice joined.
