Etruscan Bucchero Chalice with Plastic Masks, 550-500 BC

Black bucchero ware chalice with four applied human masks alternating with button bosses around the rim.

Rim, bowl and lower part of the flaring foot marked with horizontal grooves.

For a related example, cf. vase no. 255 in: Ines Jucker. Italy of the Etruscans. Mainz 1991.

According to Jucker, the shape is characteristic of the Vulci area.

H. 14.5 cm (5.7 in)

Small area of the foot restored, otherwise well preserved and fine.
