Greek Tarentine Female Votive Head, ex Bloch-Diener, 4th/3rd Century BC

Very large female votive head with sensitive facial features. The head of the young woman shows a straight nose, lidded eyes, a small sensuous mouth and a round chin.
The hair is arranged as a large melon coiffure with several tresses bound together to a bun at rear.

The large size points to a votive bust deposited in a temple.

Broken at the neck level. Worn surface with soil deposits in places.

H. 10 cm (3.9 in), H. with stand 17.5 cm (6.9 in)

Ex Swiss private collection, acquired December 1989 from Elsa Bloch-Diener, Berne (comes with original gallery description).
